DCE SUPPORTS YOUTH-LED SANITATION DRIVE IN BAMBOI

BOLE, SAVANNAH REGION – 28TH AUGUST, 2026

The District Chief Executive for Bole, Hon. Abdulai Mahmud, has demonstrated his commitment to improving environmental sanitation and promoting community-led development by actively participating in a major clean-up exercise organised by the DEGA/NORTH MO Youth Association at Bamboi in the southern part of the Bole District.

The exercise brought together youth volunteers, residents, traditional leaders and other stakeholders in a collective effort to improve the cleanliness and general environmental conditions of the community.

Participants undertook extensive cleaning of streets, public spaces, drainage channels and other areas within the township, demonstrating a strong sense of civic responsibility and community ownership.

Hon. Abdulai Mahmud’s active participation provided further impetus to the exercise and underscored the Bole District Assembly’s support for youth-led initiatives aimed at improving sanitation and public health.

Interacting with residents and volunteers during the exercise, the DCE commended the DEGA/NORTH MO Youth Association for mobilising the community and taking practical steps to address environmental sanitation challenges in Bamboi.

Hon. Mahmud emphasised that maintaining a clean environment should not be limited to occasional clean-up exercises, but must become a continuous responsibility shared by every resident.

He encouraged residents to regularly clean their homes, business premises and surroundings, while ensuring that drains and other public spaces are kept free from waste. According to the DCE, sustained attention to sanitation is essential to reducing the risk of sanitation-related diseases and creating a healthier and more attractive environment for residents.

The DCE further stressed the important role of the youth in driving community development. He noted that the initiative by the DEGA/NORTH MO Youth Association demonstrates how organised youth groups can contribute meaningfully to solving challenges within their communities.

Hon. Mahmud therefore called on other youth groups, community organisations and residents across the Bole District to emulate the initiative and actively participate in programmes that promote sanitation, public health, environmental protection and community development.

The exercise also provided an opportunity for the DCE to strengthen his engagement with residents and community-based organisations in Bamboi. The participation of the District Chief Executive reflected the Assembly’s approach of working closely with local communities and youth groups to address development challenges at the grassroots level.

Residents and organisers expressed appreciation to Hon. Abdulai Mahmud for joining the exercise and for his encouragement and support for the initiative.

The successful clean-up exercise represents a positive example of community–Assembly collaboration, with young people taking the lead in improving their immediate environment while receiving support and encouragement from local leadership.

The DEGA/NORTH MO Youth Association has consequently been commended for its initiative and organisational efforts in mobilising residents for the exercise. The activity not only contributed to a cleaner Bamboi but also promoted the values of volunteerism, civic responsibility and collective action among the youth.

Hon. Abdulai Mahmud reaffirmed his commitment to supporting community-led initiatives that contribute to the wellbeing of residents and complement the efforts of the Bole District Assembly in promoting a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable Bole District.
