DCE LEADS STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT TO ADDRESS DELAYS ON WENCHI–BOLE HIGHWAY

BAMBOI, BOLE DISTRICT – SEPTEMBER 2026

The District Chief Executive for Bole, Hon. Abdulai Mahmud, has taken a proactive step towards addressing concerns over delays in the construction of the Wenchi–Bole Highway, following a stakeholder engagement with the Highways Engineer supervising the project, representatives of the road contractor and members of the Bamboi Development Committee.

The engagement, held in Bamboi, provided an important platform for the District Chief Executive to bring together key stakeholders to discuss the progress of the project, understand the challenges affecting construction and ensure that the concerns of residents are reflected in ongoing discussions surrounding the highway.

During the meeting, the Highways Engineer and representatives of the contractor explained some of the factors contributing to the slow pace of work. These included logistical difficulties in mobilising equipment and construction materials to sections of the corridor, technical challenges associated with site preparation and earthworks, as well as the impact of seasonal weather conditions on construction activities.

Hon. Abdulai Mahmud used the engagement to emphasise the need for closer coordination among the relevant agencies, the contractor and community stakeholders in order to address challenges affecting the project and improve communication with residents and road users.

The DCE also highlighted the importance of ensuring that the highway adequately responds to the development needs of Bamboi Township, particularly as the community continues to expand and serve as an important commercial and transportation centre along the corridor.

Members of the Bamboi Development Committee raised a number of concerns regarding the design and execution of the highway within the township. These included the need for effective drainage systems, appropriate road alignment, adequate shoulders, safe pedestrian crossings and properly engineered junctions connecting the highway to local streets, markets and other important community facilities.

The committee further stressed the need for construction activities and traffic management measures to minimise disruption to the movement of residents, traders, schoolchildren and other road users during the construction period.

In response, Hon. Abdulai Mahmud reaffirmed the Bole District Assembly’s commitment to facilitating meaningful engagement between the project authorities and affected communities. He noted that while the Wenchi–Bole Highway is an important national infrastructure project, its implementation must also take into consideration the practical needs of communities along the corridor.

According to the DCE, the highway is critical to economic activity, the movement of agricultural produce, access to markets and inter-district transportation, making its timely and quality completion important to the socio-economic development of Bole District and the wider region.

Hon. Mahmud therefore encouraged the stakeholders to maintain continuous dialogue and ensure that legitimate community concerns are communicated to the appropriate authorities for consideration in the implementation of the project.

The engagement forms part of the DCE’s broader efforts to strengthen stakeholder collaboration, advocate for community needs and facilitate development projects within the Bole District.

The meeting ended with an understanding among the Highways Engineer, the contractor and the Bamboi Development Committee to maintain regular communication on the progress of the project and issues affecting the community.

The engagement underscores Hon. Abdulai Mahmud’s commitment to working with relevant stakeholders to resolve development challenges, protect the interests of communities and ensure that major infrastructure projects within the district deliver lasting benefits to residents.
